Every so often a major event
touches our lives.
The Tahoe Angora Fire started on
the southern edge of Fallen Leaf Lake and rapidly spread
south and east towards South Tahoe. I have photographed
Fallen Leaf Lake on several different occasions over
the last four years. The natural beauty of the southern
end of the lake always makes the short hike worthwhile.
Unfortunately, this view will probably be changed for
years to come. None of these pictures qualify as “wall
hangers” but they do show some of the natural beauty
of the lake.
The pictures were captured on three different occasions
with three different cameras The first set of five images
were shot in November 2005 with a Canon
1D Mk II, 24-70 mm f2.8 lens, aperture priority at relatively
fast shutter speeds.
The remaining ten images
are a mixture that were shot either in October 2003 with
a Canon 20D with the same lens and also aperture priority
at fast shutter speeds, or in May 2007 with a Canon 5D.
24-105 mm f/4 Image Stabilized lens.
I used a tripod
for the 2005 images and handheld the camera the other
two years. The Image Stabilized lens made me more comfortable
with hand holding the 2007 shots and I think I was a
bit lazy regarding hiking in with a tripod in 2003. All
of the images were shot in RAW format and converted,
touched up and sharpened in Photoshop.
